Chur Burger, Surry Hills

Oozey gooey beef burger, $10

These burgers are the bomb. They're not made from a catalogue of ingredients, just a few select things done really well. Indulgent, sweet, oozey and damn good (check the photos). The light, sweet brioche bun is the hero here, and ordering a diet alternative would be missing the point. Don't overlook the perfectly cooked sweet potatoes fries, either.

If you set up at the bar, you get a very intimate look into the burger prep. Hip-hop beats and the swift chef work = contagious energy.

Chur is probably the best burger I've tried and funnily enough, the cheapest too. Fish, beef, pork, chickpea or chicken; all of them check in at $10. Thank you, Good Chur.

The main thing that separates Chur from other burger joints? They're made by chefs, not cooks.

Burgers With @tt!tude, 6157

Burger joints in Perth are in abundance, so I'll get straight to the point on this one. The difference? Pretty much everything at Burgers With @tt!tude is made on-site, from scratch. Relishes, mayos, pickles, sourdough bread buns and even the meat is minced here. And the flavour truly shows.

A favourite i'm told of the owner, and now of mine, is the Mushroom burger, $14. Grilled Portobello, avocado, cheddar, coriander, lime, onion and tomato, melded with creamy whole egg mayo and zingy house pickled corn and jalapenos. Zing! The Mexican twist was an unlikely match for the rich portobello mushroom, and somehow worked wonders. The spright coriander and fresh crisp lettuce, sealed the deal.

What I couldn't get over was the lightness of the buns. Homemade sourdough which let the fillings take centre stage. The buns weren't too bread-y or bulky, just perfect. Someone knows how to bake! This burger was the best I've had in a long time. Fresh and light, yet indulgent at the same time.

The service matches up to the substance - fast, friendly and passionate. The girl at front of house is SO nice. All my niggly questions were met with enthusiastic answers and recommendations.

Burgers: 4.5/5 (Fresh fillings, unique ingredients, good vego options and classic beef burgers too, made-from-scratch condiments)
Service: 5/5 (A pleasure)
Ambience: 3.5/5 (a simple take-away or quick stop joint, few seating, clean space)
Value: 4/5

Source Foods, 6000

In a word: fresh. In two words: wholesome and fresh. In three: hearty, wholesome and fresh.

T Burger

Source are champions of the low food miles concept and I love it. All produce is bought from the nearest source possible (Ah, I just got the name now!) and meals are reproduced as close to their original, raw form. Yes there's lots of colourful vegetarian and vegan options but the dishes are hearty and you wont notice they're removed of meat (the bean quesadilla is a little bit awesome!). Don't be mistaken - Source are not exclusively vegetarian; they make some mean beef burgers too!

My favourites at Source are the Satay Tofu burger and the T Burger. The T stands for tempeh - a less processed version of tofu, derived from soybeans. The texture of the unprocessed soya beans give it a hearty and satisfying taste. I just love this burger! Stacked high with mixed lettuce, grated carrot, fresh tomato, roasted beeteroot and the best caramelised onions; this monster is then wedged between two soft, organic buns and some homemade hommus. It is one of my favourite lunches. This burger is on the menu ever day.

The satay burger is rarer to come by, but you can get it on Friday nights when Source lives its double life as a burger bar. These burgers are my favourite of all the burger joints I've tried in Perth (I've tried A LOT), mainly because they're just so fresh and overflowing with nutritious produce.

Satay Tofu Burger - you wont want it to end

Breakfast is also delicious as well as quite generous for the price. Coffee won't knock the socks off a connoisseur but its certainly nothing to complain about either!

Vego breakfast - toast with hommus, tomato, shrooms, spinach and great home style beans

The services is genuinely friendly, the cafe is drenched with light and the furnishings pared back and raw - much like the philosophy on food. The cafe has passed through a few different owners since its foundation but quality has't waned. If anything, it's gotten better.

I love Source.

Missy Moos, 6162

Cheery service and décor dotted with childhood nostalgia; Missy Moos is a happy-go-lucky burger bar.  Kids texta drawings, pinned with alphabet magnets decorate the counter. Kitschy plastic watering cans and tomatoes are used for table numbers, colourful oragami dangle from the ceiling, and menu items are named from various children's nursery rhymes.

One missy moo chicken burger plus extras
I first tried the 'missy moo chicken burger'; the chicken tenderloins were cooked perfectly and there was a generous smash of fresh avocado inside. I must say I've had a better chicken burger elsewhere however.  The accompanying onion chutney was overly sweet, even to a sugar fiend like me. I would have liked the option of a brown bun over a white one too.

If you like your veggie burgers, Missy Moos does the best version. Order the 'peter, peter pumpkin eater': a pattie of spicy pumpkin, spinach, cous cous and butter bean; its full of flavour!

If you're more of a sandwich person, they do a whopping club sandwich too but be warned; I’ve seen it leave a grown man defeated.
